Psoriasis – treatments & diet tips
Natural remedies & tips from a naturopath
Suffer from psoriasis? Janella Purcell answers your questions about natural treatments.
I get psoriasis on my forehead quite badly and I’m wondering what is lacking in my diet and what can I use topically to treat it?
JP: Firstly, ensure you are using hair care that is free from parabens and sodium lauryl sulphur. If you colour your hair, I strongly recommend you switch to a colourist who uses a natural range.
You can also rinse your hair after conditioning with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water (1:10). You can also take one tablespoon in a little warm water first thing in the morning. This is very alkalising.
Next, your skincare – ensure everything you are putting on your face is either chemical free, or better still, organic.
Cut the acidic food out of your diet as much as you can. This is anything refined – canned, packaged, take away or food that has been in any way changed from its original state. I know this probably won’t be completely possibly but try to be mindful of reducing the amount.
Also, reduce the amount of refined dairy, grains, sugar and meat in your diet. Look for a cream at a health food store that contains calendula.
I would also suggest you start taking a practitioner-only probiotic, and after you’ve finished that, start introducing fermented foods into your diet.
