This enticing spice boasts a sweet, warming and spicy taste. It adds its own sweetness to certain foods and also intensifies sweet dishes. “The pods and seeds are used in curries,” Hamilton says. “But cardamom is also delicious in baked goods and is often an ingredient in pastries in Scandinavian countries.” Cardamom pairs well with fruits that are not overly sweet themselves, like apples or pears. Like any spice, small quantities are the key.
“Used for indigestion, stomach pains and flatulence, cardamom can also help combat bad breath,” Hamilton says.
